Allergies

I thought I'd update on the boys' allergies. As some of you may know Ryan has food allergies. Ryan has to get skin and blood tested once a year. This year I thought I'd test Ethan too just in case. Here is what we found...

Ryan: On the allergy scale a 20 is considered very high. Peanuts were a 20. And Eggs were a 100 + (that's what they call super duper high off the scale, stay away from eggs in EVERYTHING). I've been telling people Ryan can have eggs in cookies and cakes, but it turns out he can not. Also with eggs it includes ranch dressing, mayonnaise, miracle whip, you know anything with eggs. People often don't think how many things actually contain eggs in them. Our bread, Grandma Sycamore's, actually does not contain eggs, nor do our Bubba's Bagels.
On with the list
Chicken
Turkey
Peas
Beans
Melon
Tomato
Coconut (which is very rare, I told the doctor he could write a book with Ryan's allergies).

Ryan is also allergic to being cold. He gets a rash if his bathwater is too cool. He gets HUGE hives if he's out in the snow, and forget about cold pool water or lake water. They said the hives from the snow is not what's to worry about as much. It's being immersed in cold water. His whole body could go into shock and he could die (that is worse case scenario, but it could and has happened). So needless to say I have my hands full.

Ethan: They only tested him a few things since his back is so small, but here is the verdict. He is allergic to Eggs (also tested high therefore he also can not have anything with eggs in it) and Peanut. And they will test him more in 6 months.

How did my kids get this? My throat gets a little itchy and swollen with tree nuts. Ben is the same with peaches. But that's it. I do have eczema, and Ben has Asthma, they say that might be a trigger. Who knows?

We sure eat a lot of Beef and Pork and potatoes around here.

That has to be so hard!! I have a hard enough time trying to get my kids to eat and then when you eliminate that much stuff it has to be really hard. Scary too because of how dangerous it is for them if they do accidently eat something!! I promise I won't ever feed your kids anything without asking you first!!:)

All I can say is I am sorry! Life is hard and it only will get harder! I can't wait until it is all over. Than again it could only get harder!

It is a good thing that you are their mommy and are on top of all of this. I have a hard enough time thinking of things to feed my kids and they aren't allergic to anything. And the cold thing I think is the scariest...I have never heard of anyone being allergic to the cold. Maybe he should move to AZ when he gets older. : ) It never gets cold there.

That is so crazy and scary. We thought that Addelyn had nut allergies for a while. They had us take her to an allergist and she is fine. I am still afraid to give her nuts though. I don't know how you do it.

That would be so hard. Ditto to everyone else - trying to find food for Brad is hard enough without all of that to deal with too! I have heard of being allergic to the cold before - I knew someone whose significant other had that - and it is really scary! I agree, maybe you'll have to move to AZ or CA to stay in the warmth. You are a great Mommy to deal with all that!

That is crazy! Jadyn took her birthday treat in and we took play-doh cause you never know what kids can have anymore. There is one who is allergic to flour and sugar...that's fun I'm sure.

You must be good at being creative with meals!

Oh Kelly, that must be so frustrating! At least niether of the boys are allergic to chocolate. When you're having a rough day, you can cuddle up with Ryan or Ethan and share some chocolate together. What a fun way to bond with your boys, eh? ;)
