No More TV

I am a Television addict. Ben got home early from school last Monday night, so we watched a movie instead of my usual watching of the Bachelor or Gossip Girl. We went to bed at 11:30 p.m. and all I could think about was "what happened on the Bachelor this week?". Here is a list of all the T.V. programs I DVR (only new episodes).

Monday: The Bachelor, Gossip Girl
Tuesday: Scrubs, 90210, Melrose Place, American Idol
Wednesday: Modern Family, Cougar Town, Eastwick, American Idol, Glee
Thursday: Community, 30 Rock, The Office, Vampire Diaries, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice
Friday, Saturday and Sunday I only record an occasional football game. Or sometimes Tough Love on VH1.

As you can see, I spend WAY too much time watching TV. I've justified it by saying "I fast forward through the commercials".

My solution: NO MORE TV

Last night instead of watching American Idol, I did my dishes, studied for a math test by the fire, and went to bed early. See how much more I can do without wasting my time? I'm going to try REALLY hard to keep this up. Wish me luck! I'll need it.

I watch very little tv. I used to watch more when Ryan was in school, but now we watch hardly any. To be honest, I don't miss it. Good luck with the no watching. It can be a difficult transition. I am excited for Saturday!!!

I had to give up Gossip Girls and 90210. I loved it but like you it was just too much, plus Weston wasn't really into it so I tried to watch it when he wasn't there which means with the kids running around screaming and it just wasn't worth it after all that. Good for you though. You could probably still watch a few just cut back a little. I am going to resist the urge to see what has happened since I have missed those too for this whole season, its going to be tuff :)

A math test?

.... That is a lot of shows! You could just cut back! But good luck! And of coarse it's easy for Shelli when She doesn't have Dish or dvr : ) !!!

We would save a ton of money if we didn't have dish! But A' can't live without his Utes!

Holy lots of shows Batman!! I have never seen any of them except Tough Love! That is a great show! But, like you, I watch WAY to much TV as well! I need to stop to! You can always text me if you need something to do! 99% chance that I am in need of something to do also! I love you!

True, true, Britni, but we don't have dish or dvr because we just don't watch much. I still watch a few things, but not a lot. When you stop watching you just stop caring about them.

Shelli, I'm hoping to get to the point where I stop caring.

Yes, I watch(ed) A LOT of freaking shows. I started my addiction when Ben was (and still is) in school until 11 p.m. every night. I didn't want to clean...so I watched T.V. Now I guess I'll clean. :-)

You're awesome! We gave it up too, although we did have Comcast for a month-trial for the Buchanans in December. :) I feel like Ash and I talk so much more in the evenings and get more sleep and the things we really want to see we request from the library, the salt lake county library system is awesome. And we check the weather on the web and read newspapers online. Way to go!

We just cancelled our cable! We don't watch much t.v. anyway and when we do it's all local channels so we might as well save the money:) I do seem to accomplish more when I am not watching t.v. but sometimes it is nice to just sit down and not think about all the things that need done around the house!!:)

I don't think you watch enough tv. I don't know if you've ever seen any of the other amazing shows that VH1 has to offer, but they are definitely worth the DVR space. But just don't tell anyone about them...this is me not telling you that I love the Frank the Entertainer show...

Kelly, I am so proud of you! Wade and I were sick and tired of feeling like we were wasting so much time watching tv, so in August we made the decision to turn off the tv. It's been amazing! We read, talk, and make out more. ;) haha

Honestly, I've been tempted to turn the tv back on for Idol because I haven't missed a season in 6 years, BUT I haven't done it yet. It feels so good to not be tied down to different shows and what happens next. So good luck to both you and me as we try to continue with the change!

PS) A huge benefit of not watching tv has been that our home feels more peaceful and the spirit is stronger. It's been nice.

Good luck, Kelli! Its worth it.
When we lived in our apartment we had no t.v. and it was really nice and now, here at our new house we only get ABC, Retro t.v., CW and two channels that are all in Spanish; so we don't watch much.
My addiction is online window shopping. :)There are so many things out there that I like to imagine I will buy someday. For some reason its so much harder for me to turn of the computer than turn off the t.v.
