Ryan's First Day of Kindergarten

Ryan started Kindergarten on August 3, 2010. I can't believe he is in school now. He rides the bus to school, but we drove him the first day. He has been so excited to go. His teacher's name is Mrs. Marquard. He had his pre-kindergarten evaluation a week before school and his teacher said he did awesome! He is such a smart boy. He loves to ride the bus to school. We are in PM kindergarten so he gets excited to go to the back of the bus on the way to school. But I make him stay in the front of the bus on the way home when the big kids are on. He is doing very well, we're just trying to work out homework bugs. He does NOT want to work on homework when he comes home, so I let him have an after school snack and relax for about 15 mins. Then it's homework time.
It's pretty weird to not be able to just get up and go somewhere when ever we want to. We now have to worry about school.

Ethan wanted to go to school too!
Ryan chose to wear his awesome R2-D2 shirt.

Getting up the nerve to go say hi to some friends.

Standing in his class line waiting to into the school.

Walking into school. I only cried a little. And Ben made fun of me...so nice.
It was nice that Ben worked from home that day so he could take Ryan to school with me. Ethan was so sad he could not go to school with Ryan, so we stopped to get him a slurpee on the way home.

Ben gave Ryan a father's blessing before school started. And we talked to Ryan about what that is, and that he can ask for one whenever he needs to. Last night, right before bed Ryan asked Ben for another Father's Blessing. Ben asked what what bothering him, and Ryan said, "Well, some kids are being mean to me at school, so I would like a blessing." He is so sweet. Ben gave him a blessing.
Why do kids have to be mean? We've talked to Ryan about staying away from the mean kids, and to not be friends with them. What more can I do?

We love Ryan very much, and we are excited for him to be in school.
He's getting so big!

oh, i had a lump in my throat reading this. I think it is so sad when other kids are mean-as a parent I would be P.O. if someone was mean to Connor. Do you think he is extra sensitive, and maybe feels like the kids are being mean-just wondering-because I see this a lot.

I can't think about kids being mean or it makes me sad worrying that Carlie will have the same problem!! Why do kids have to be so mean!! I just hope that Carlie will meet the nice ones:) It is scary when they go to school for the first time! Sounds like he is doing great though and looks excited to go to school:)

Look how little their bodies look with those "huge" backpacks. I'm not looking forward to Miss Fin's first day of school -be it preschool or kindergarten. Sad day.

That is so sweet :) Cately is starting school at the end of this month, holy moly the city starts early. Anyway, mean kids are the worst. The good and sad thing about them is that most kids forgive them pretty fast so they are still friends with the mean kids, crappy. We have a mean girl on our street... Oh well. Woo Hoo for kindergarten.

Can I just tell you, I teared up when I read the part about Ryan asking for a blessing and was like awww and then I read that it was cause kids were being mean to him and I just got the urge to fly home and kick some little kindergarten butt! Just so you know! ;)

Yay Ryan! Way to go. He looks so proud. We have told Eliza that when kids are mean she can just shrug and say, "I'm sorry you're having a bad day. I'm going to find someone else to play with." Doesn't always work, but most of the time!

That makes me so sad that kids are being mean to him. I'm really excited for Sadie to go to school, but it's scary sending her out into the real world. What's a mom to do?
